Craftsmanship
Where
the magic happens
Azza Fahmy jewellery, is characterized by its intricate craftsmanship, here we preserve techniques that were used thousands of years ago. Every piece is uniquely handcrafted to tell a unique story to its wearer.
Our signature is incorporating different cultures into wearable art while combining it with intricate craftsmanship.
At our design house, skilled gold and silversmiths bring our pieces to life. They operate under the ancient Ottoman hierarchy of master/trainer/trainee. The merit of this system is to pass on the jewellery making craft from generation to generation, ensuring the young craftsmen learn from the masters, while preserving the magic of the craft and its authenticity.
Each piece of jewellery revolves around a central inspirational motif or a poem that carries a personal message to its wearer, making the calligraphy one of our unique signatures, in addition to pioneering in combining silver & gold. (chains & hand-piercing)
Filligree
A technique that is rapidly losing popularity to other machine-made techniques, but still being used at our workshops, where Azza Fahmy believes that its presence is important in the craft of jewellery-making, and it's relied on it for several of our designs. Filigree technique resemble lace in appearance, transforming a jewellery piece into an ornate work of art that is special and unique.
Filligree-type jewellery is based on the twisting of two metal wires, then flattening them and cutting them into small pieces; these are then fashioned by hand with a special tool to form circles that are set in their appropriate place within the design, and finally welded by powder solder made out of small grains of solder. The craftsmen who specialize in filligree work do nothing else and are known as shafatisha (filligreers).
Hand-piercing
Translating intricate motifs into wearable arts, requires one of traditional jewellery techniques, hand-piercing.
Which is sawing all sketches within a piece, a process that requires extremely skilled craftsmen, with jewellery pieces taking days and sometimes weeks in the making.
